Activating a license
LUCA has been designed to have a flexible licensing system allowing for easy activation and release of a license across different devices.
A single LUCA license is needed for operation of all LUCA applications, a license is always activated to an instance of Master Patch.

Types of License
There are currently three types of License available, these are:
- Single License, One week
- Single License, One month
- Single License, One Year
Single License, One Week
The Single License, One Week license allows the activation of a Master Patch instance for one week (seven Days) and is not recurring, meaning at the end of the seven days the license will become inactive.
The seven days begin from the time of purchase.
Single License, One Month
The Single License, One Month license allows the activation of a Master Patch instance for one month (32 Days) and is recurring.
The monthly license has a duration of 32 days, but a billing period of 30 days, this ensures that the user has a period of two days in which to re-synch their license with their user account.
The 30 days begin from the time of purchase.
Single License, One Year
The Single License, One Year license allows the activation of a Master Patch instance for one year (367 Days) and is recurring.
The monthly license has a duration of 367 days, but a billing period of 365 days, this ensures that the user has a period of two days in which to re-synch their license with their user account.
The 365 days begin from the time of purchase.
Activation
In order to activate a license to an instance of Master Patch, the user must first have a valid license key. License keys can be acquired through the Vampire Squid Website via the user portal.
Within the user portal the user is able to see an overview of their license information. Details such as the expiration date and device that the license was last activated to can be a good first place to look if having issues activating a license.
When first launched, Master Patch will prompt the user for a license key.
Initial activation of Master Patch requires an active internet connection
With a good internet connection the activation process should be fast, slower internet connections may result in a slower activation, if there is an issue with the internet connection or the activation then the license window of Master Patch will inform the user.
Possible errors include:
Message | What it means |
---|---|
"There was an error activating the license Please make sure you are connected to the internet, you have entered your License Key correctly, and try again." | Master Patch was unable to find a valid connection to the internet, or the license key that was entered was incorrect |
"There was an error with connecting to the Vampire Squid validation server. Please make sure you are on an active internet connection and try again" | Master Patch was able to make a valid connection to the internet, but it was unable to reach the Vampire Squid activation server, this can be caused by local IT Administration settings which block the return message from the Vampire Squid server, connect the internet outside of the network previously attempted to activate from, and then attempt reactivation. |
"There was an error when trying to activate your license. Make sure you have not used this license key before, or that they license associated with this key has been deactivated before attempting activation." | Master Patch successfully connected to the Vampire Squid validation server, however the license key used for activation was already activated to a different instance of Master Patch. Ensure that the license key you are using to activate with is not in use by another machine. You can see which machine a license has been activated to from your user portal of the Vampire Squid Website |
After activation, Master Patch will show the user the time remaining on the license when the application is launched, however it is not required that Master Patch be online during operation. Online activation with offline operation is possible at any time after successful activation of a license.
There have been examples where a corporate network blocks the return message from the Vampire Squid activation server resulting in a failed activation, if experiencing issues activating a license, try changing to an open public network, or a personal 'hot spot'.
License Window
From the file menu, an option for License can be found. This will show the same License Window seen when first launching Master Patch where the status of the license can be seen, as well as the option to released the license back to the user portal.
