Getting Started

This page is dedicated to the first steps the user will need to know in order to get up and running with Stage Viewer.

Viewers

Within the world of LUCA, Stage Viewer is known as a 'viewer'. Viewer applications have the ability to retrieve and view data from a LUCA Server (Master Patch) on the same network.

Viewers are currently available as desktop applications for both Mac and Windows operating system, as well as for iOS mobile operating system.

Licensing

Viewer applications such as Stage Viewer do not require a license, within the LUCA suite only the server application (Master Patch) requires a license for operation, please see the Licensing section for more information.

Theoretically an instance of a Master Patch Server can have an infinite number of Viewer applications connected to it, like all servers the performance returned is based on the specification of the server hardware, how many clients are connected to it as well as how much and how regularly those clients are requesting data from the server.

In testing and real world deployments LUCA has been shown to support over 40 clients without any noticeable impact on performance, higher numbers of clients are possible.

Versioning

All applications within the LUCA suite are updated together, this means that when deploying instances of LUCA, all applications should be on the same software version.

For example, if the version of Master Patch the user is deploying is V1.49, then the version of Stage Viewer deployed should match this.

On the preferences page of Stage Viewer the user can see the software version of the application.

Auto Updates

Like Master Patch, if connected to the internet when launching Stage Viewer, the application will automatically check if any updates are available and inform the user if there is.

The user is then able to download or ignore the update as they desire.

The most up to date version of LUCA applications are also available from the Vampire Squid website via the users user portal.
